“Mama Said” was borne of the fears (substantiated or not) imposed on girls regarding the intentions of the men that come into their lives; the idea of surface-level intimacy and the prominence of people that will want to “know your lips before [they] learn your name.” It’s about a hesitation. A doubt. A tendency to approach every glance, word, and touch with assumed distrust as a method of self-preservation.
While all the music I write is special to me, this song in particular holds a lot of weight. A confused and vulnerable, yet blissful, 18-year-old Jillian forever resides here singing things she couldn’t say. Exposing the thoughts she could not understand without writing a song.
I am grateful to have produced “Mama Said” in upstate New York alongside the same talented friends as all my previously released music.
I hope you enjoy it and find a piece of yourself embedded in my words.
Trust (if you can) that there is so much more to come ;)
Happy streaming!
Until next time.
All my love,
