Billie Holiday
Billie Holiday (Eleanora Fagan Gough, Philadelphia, PA, April 7, 1915 – New York City, NY, July 17, 1959) was an American jazz singer and songwriter. Nicknamed Lady Day by her loyal friend and musical partner Lester Young, Holiday was a highly original influence on jazz and pop singing. Her vocal style, strongly inspired by jazz instrumentalists, pioneered a new way of manipulating phrasing and tempo. Above all, she was admired for her deeply personal and intimate approach to singing.

Child, come home
Previously I thought I was done with this song, but now when I listen to it I feel ashamed. Now I have therefore redone it and removed all the "hassle". There are many who do better singing and music but I think this works better anyway, for me. 4 simple chords. --------- I was lost on a lonely highway Blinded by the pouring rain Felt the weight of all my troubles Like a heavy ball and chain Grace like a river Washing over me Mercy like the morning sun Setting my soul free Chains are broken Blind eyes start to see Grace like a river Flows endlessly . I cried out in the darkest midnight “Lord, I can’t make it on my own” Then I heard a voice like thunder Whisper: “Child, come home” . I walked miles in the wrong direction Tried to fight this fight alone But Your strong hand reached down to save me And gently led me home Whisper: “Child, come home” . Grace like a river Washing over me Mercy like the morning sun Setting my soul free Chains are broken Blind eyes start to see Grace like a river Flows endlessly . I walked miles in the wrong direction Tried to fight this fight alone But Your strong hand reached down to save me And gently led me home I cried out in the darkest midnight “Lord, I can’t make it on my own” Then I heard a voice like thunder Whisper: “Child, come home” . Ain’t no sinner too far gone Ain’t no night too dark The cross still shines like a lighthouse Calling every heart: “Child, come home” Calling every heart: “Child, come home”more
