http://fioraidh.com and http://fioraidh.bandcamp.com if you want to hear more. Almost fifty, Scottish, and after an eighteen-year hiatus away from music I've decided to re-learn all my instruments. I'm currently going back through and recording brand new versions of songs I wrote for my band in the '90s (I quit in 1999) as well as writing new songs. Everything is done by me - writing, guitars, drums, bass, vocals, keyboards, and anything else that crops up. I just love music, really. GEAR: Egypt Pharaoh Isis guitar, Ernie Ball Music Man JP7 7-string guitar, Yamaha electro-acoustic guitar, Traben Bootzilla 5-string bass, Roland TD-20 drums, Mapex M Series drums, Sabian Hand-Hammered cymbals, Rhode NT2A mic, Shure Beta 58A mic, Fender Stage 112 SE amp, Focusrite Scarlett 2i4.

A Tale That Wasn't Right
At the end of November, the same night I was due to perform live for the first time in 25 years (as the new singer of Tantrum), I tested positive for Covid-19 and the gig had to be cancelled. Since then, I've been having to go through a load of vocal repair exercises as I lost a couple of notes from the top of my range. Normally, I would have been able to record this song with no issue, but this time I had to drop it by one semitone to cope with the highs. I'm using it as a baseline, and I'm hoping that in six months time or so, I'll be able to hit the highs at the correct pitch. I know there are issues, but I'm still happy with how it turned out. I hope you like it too. This is "A Tale That Wasn't Right", written by Helloween. Want to hear more? You can listen to my material on Bandcamp: https://fioraidh.bandcamp.com/more

Silent Crying (vocal cover from Conception's Parallel Minds)
As I mentioned in my last upload (Tears of the Dragon), I lost my ability to sing when I contracted whooping cough around ten years ago. I used four songs to re-train my voice, and this is one of them. I got a little lazy this time around, though - normally, I'd record all the parts myself but I recently joined a band and don't have a lot of time anymore so I literally just pulled the vocal track out of the original CD version and replaced it with my own. The ONLY thing here that's mine is the vocal track, nothing more. This is Silent Crying, from Conception's 1993 "Parallel Minds" album.more

Tears of the Dragon
A little back story... around ten years ago, I contracted adult whooping cough and it lasted almost nine months. After it cleared, I'd lost my ability to sing. Completely. I couldn't sustain, I had no range, and I couldn't find keep pitch. It was soul destroying. A few years ago, I decided I would try and retrain my voice so I could sing again. I picked four songs that I thought best suited my style and which would help me with range, subtlety, power, sustain, and overall control. I used those four songs daily, building up to the point where I was able to sing again. As I have writers' block from finishing an album in July, I thought I'd take time to record a very rough and quick version of one of the songs I trained with - Bruce Dickinson's "Tears of the Dragon". This one helped with power, control, and subtlety. This is a fully licensed release, don't worry.more
