In the year 2020, when Peter New Jersey set out to digitally remaster his first full-length solo album, 1998’s Transport Courier, he came across a mysterious unused track hidden deep within the original master tapes. It was a recording of his own voice reading “Hands as Hot as the Center of the Earth” a poem that he’d written for his community college creative writing class. Peter held no memory of making this recording and only a vague memory of the poem itself. He supposed that it was left off of Transport Courier for lack of space or the inspiration and/or technological capability to write and record music suitable enough to accompany it. When he realized what it was that he’d discovered, Peter promised his former self that as soon as the remaster of its parent album was complete, he would set out to put this orphaned poem to music worthy of its provenance and give it a proper home out here in the universe. The New Jerseys are thereby proud to present “Hands as Hot as the Center of the Earth” by Peter New Jersey – a collaboration with oneself across twenty-two years of spacetime.
