bfmtrl (pronounced “boyfriend material”) is a Goth/New Wave-inspired band based in Woodstock, Ontario. The core duo of Mitch Langdon and Kaleb McArdle began jamming and songwriting in November of 2023, oscillating between roles on guitar, bass, synth, and programmed drums. Drawing inspiration from artists like The Cure, Morrissey, and Tears for Fears, they soon cultivated a distinctive sound that taps into a shared sense of nostalgia, weaving together the contrasting aspects of their playing styles. The dark, brooding nature of their sound never stifles their electrifying intensity. Succinct and dynamic guitar riffs layered with idiosyncratic chords sway to a hauntingly melancholic funk, driven by intensely groovy bass and drums. Unabashedly embracing their heart-on-sleeve maudlin juvenility, bfmtrl subverts any sense of kitsch through provocative lyrics that challenge the boundaries of language. As they explore themes such as matricide, oppressive love and personal tragedies, bf

Superficial (Demo)
A sense of finality is necessity to rid the burden of endless revisions. Attempts to transcend my limitations as a performer were exercises in futility. These are my demos, warts and all. melodrama
Hi there, I am one half of the band bfmtrl (pronounced boyfriend material). We've been describing our music as Dark Wave/'80s Goth, but I'm not sure that is accurate. We have heavy influence from bands like The Cure, Tears for Fear and The Smiths. This is our first release, melodrama. Our 2nd single strobe light will be released June 4 (pre-save here: https://distrokid.com/hyperfollow/bfmtrl/strobe-light) I'd love to hear what you all think and any feedback is more than welcome. Thanks, Kaleb bfmtrlmore
