Scientific Research started as a 4-track bedroom recording project in 1999 by Tom Redmond and Craig Exton, two Australians living in Japan. They combined electric and acoustic guitars, bass, drum machine, casiotone, singing, talking, glockenspiel, melodica, harmonica, radio, bottles and whatever else they could find. After moving back to Australia they continued making songs adding Gwyn Edwards on vocals, guitar and banjo. When Craig moved back to Tokyo, Tom and Gwyn continued playing together under the name of Skinny Kid Rodeo.
