The Scene
The Scene is the name of at least five bands; one Dutch, one Canadian, one British, one German, and one English. 1) A Dutch rock band from Amsterdam called The Scene, formed around singer Thé Lau. The band was formed in 1979 and had its glory days in the Nineties. The band had a great variety of members throughout the years, but the sound remained basically the same. Thé Lau's characteristic raw and hoarse voice and his hypnotising compositions are the focal point of the band.

Parodie
Sacred Love versus Derision "Parodie" (Parody) is a fascinating track driven by the contrast between the protagonist’s inner earnestness and the cynical gaze of the outside world. Nicart manages to portray a near-religious devotion, only to have it collide head-on with the harsh reality of social incomprehension. It is a bold song that compels the listener to take a side: do you choose the sincerity of love, or do you join the onlookers on the sidelines in their laughter? The lyrical structure of "Parodie" is cyclical, reinforcing the sense of an unacknowledged testimony. The audio reveals a composition rooted in melancholic Dutch rock, which bolsters the emotional layers of the lyrics. "Parodie" stands out as a poignant highlight on the album *Dodelijke nachtschaduw* (Deadly Nightshade). John Nicart succeeds in capturing the painful sensation of emotional isolation—the realization that what you hold as your greatest love is perceived by others as a joke. Yet, by keeping the music so sincere and powerful, he proves the very opposite of the title: this is no parody, but a deeply serious artistic expression. Translated lyrics: This is the story Of death and life I give myself to you Until the times You are so beautiful This is the story Of life and life I care about you Till death And even further But they view me As a parody But they view me As a parody This is the story About happiness and life I give my soul for you To the vultures Above us This is the story Of miracles I give time with you For no money To another But they view me As a parody But they view me As a parody - Mastered by mixea.commore

Tot een hoogtepunt komen
The Mirror and the Struggle "Tot een hoogtepunt komen" (To Reach A Climax) is one of the most combative tracks on the album. While the title might carry a sensual connotation in a different context, Nicart uses it here to mark the breaking point of a psychological impasse. The song is a confrontation with the 'self' and a refusal to go through life as a victim any longer. It is a mature rock track that possesses an unstoppable forward momentum, both lyrically and musically. The lyrics employ rich symbolism to describe the protagonist's internal transformation. Musically, the composition mirrors the shift from doubt to decisive action—dynamic rock with a mission, so to speak. "Tot een hoogtepunt komen" is a powerful anthem to the human will. John Nicart succeeds in capturing that moment of emotional release—the "enough is enough"—within an effective rock structure. It is a song about coming of age, shedding the victim mentality, and finding the courage to look the man in the mirror straight in the eye, even as the Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse appear on the horizon. Translated lyrics: The man in the mirror Looks familiar That look in his eyes Seems so confident He stares at me How far will you go He is at a crossroads With someone in the distance Four horsemen arrive The Apocalypse on horseback But that look in his eyes He won't let them go Come to a climax It's been enough Don't let yourself be a victim It dawns on you He stands up and fights The truth in the past Is nothing more than a lie Trust is carved From pieces of melting ice That look in his eyes Tell that to someone else Come to a climax It's been enough Don't let yourself be a victim It dawns on you He stands up and fights The man in the mirror He also makes mistakes In his world behind glass So identical And opposite With that look in his eye Come to a climax It's been enough Don't let yourself be a victim It dawns on you He stands up and fights - Mastered by mixea.commore

Dodelijke Nachtschaduw
The Paradox of Fear "Dodelijke nachtschaduw" (Deadly Nightshade) is a masterful exercise in atmospheric rock. The song succeeds in making abstract fear tangible through a perfect symbiosis of haunting lyrics and a driving, almost hypnotic composition. It is a track that the listener not only hears but feels deep in their gut. Nicart’s lyrics offer a fascinating exploration of inner turmoil, wrapped in the metaphor of the 'nightshade' (nachtschaduw). Musically, the track mirrors the duality of the lyrics: a blend of menace and unstoppable momentum, delivered through hypnotic Dutch-language rock. "Dodelijke nachtschaduw" is a triumph of introspective rock. John Nicart succeeds in transforming the unspeakable—the paralyzing fear lurking behind success—into an anthem of resilience. It is a song that invites the listener to confront their own shadows. Within the 1995 catalogue, this track stands as a beacon of artistic integrity and emotional depth. Translated lyrics: Deadly nightshade deadly nightshade deadly nightshade The rest time is over You go for it Where were you as long as My life was going well But now I'm really scared Deadly nightshade you are a deadly nightshade to me Deadly nightshade when you resurface Deadly nightshade I don't want you to stop Now stop worrying in my head Months of calm before the storm Bring the little devil out of the box A surprise Brings you pleasure I am desperate Deadly nightshade you are a deadly nightshade to me Deadly nightshade when you resurface Deadly nightshade I don't want you to stop Now stop worrying in my head Deadly nightshade you are a deadly nightshade to me Deadly nightshade when you resurface Deadly nightshade I don't want you to stop Now stop worrying in my head Looking for a solution Do you hope for improvement I don't find the solution When I dig into our grief Deadly nightshade deadly nightshade Deadly nightshade I don't want you to stop Stop worrying now Deadly nightshade you are a deadly nightshade to me Deadly nightshade when you resurface Deadly nightshade I don't want you to stop But still, you stop Deadly nightshade deadly nightshade - Mastered by mixea.commore
