Zozobra was formed in Santa Fe, New Mexico, United States in 2006 by Caleb Scofield (Cave In, Old Man Gloom), which allowed him the chance to write his own songs for the first time. On their first album, Harmonic Tremors in 2007, Caleb teamed up with Santos Montano (Forensics, Old Man Gloom) on drums and Adam McGrath (Cave In, Clouds) on additional guitars and vocals, with Caleb doing bass, guitar and vocals. The album was released by Hydra Head Records. The band toured the United States with Isis and Jesu in 2007.
