This is very much a Kaskade/Deadmau5-inspired progressive house track that also draws some elements from tech house. A flanger was used in place of reverb or delay to help de-clutter the track and create some space. The trails and decay of the verb and delay were muddying up the track. The vocal samples are a bit tricky, as they start on the offbeat and drag right into the pocket. Despite the sound, they are actually quantized and in time with the rest of the track, verified via quantization. Some of these tracks are side-chained as needed. This is also the first time in a while that I've used organ stabs rather than piano stabs.
The organ stabs follow a chord progression of Aminor7 - Cminor7 - Fminor7 - Db(Maj7,9,13)), taking on a rather odd ♯III⁷ – v⁷ – i⁷ – ♭VIᴹ⁷(9,13) pattern. However, it's surprisingly pleasant in a mix despite being slightly jarring in isolation. Now the two drops are not spaced far apart, which is something I'm not entirely the biggest fan of. However, I found that this was the difference between the organ stabs sounding "big" and engaging versus them sounding like s***.
Needless to say, this is not a minimal track by any stretch of imagination, and the music theory behind this one is extensive, especially from both a melodic and temporal standpoint. It's slightly repetitive, but this is the point. House Music and Techno are SUPPOSED to be repetitive, even in more melodic subgenres - layering, tension & release, and finding ways to work within the box are part of it because it's dance music/DJ music meant for remixing (I do not want people to feel ignored or shut out! I value all feedback; it's just a constraint that has to stay for future use. Feedback is CRITICAL for those who are trying to use their music commercially, and I do not want to stifle it! We literally cannot do our jobs without it!).
This one aims to be another feel-good and easy-to-vibe-with track. Club-driven & DJ-ready is the intent with this one.
The song was mastered with the aid of Landr's mastering plugin, which is a recent acquisition of mine. more
