This song is about feeling stuck, wanting to move forward, but being unable or unsure where to start. The line "what would it take to lead me away?" is wondering if there's anything that could actually motivate a change. Stalemate took a long time to write, having gone through at least 5 or 6 different versions/variations over the years. It finally ended up here, becoming one of my favorite songs I've ever written!more
