Hey Everyone,
I'm working on some darker pieces right now for a possible EP.
I want the songs to feel like love/ breakup songs, but they're actually about my complicated relationship with religion.
I want to tighten up the writing on the end bit. What do you think?
Lyrics:
Kerosene intoxicated, I never let them in,
those men, snake-oiled their way into my mother’s
bed. Her arms, which were mine by design,
never looked so full. Covetous, Code Breakers,
Tablet Smashers-in a temple cave where I was knitted.
Women cannot quest for love, like you do!
Loneliness is the badge of virtue.
Deceitful, Dismissive Creatures,
Men were my best teachers.
The oracle was right.
“The higher the mountain, the closer to the Gods.”
So I climbed, found you, alone in the dark,
remembered my lessons with admiration,
with schoolgirl eagerness.
My face- you couldn’t see- but knew me by my taste.
Called me “poison,” lovingly in my ear.
Women cannot quest for love, like you do!
Loneliness is the badge of virtue.
Deceitful, Dismissive Creatures,
Men were my best teachers.
I was not ready for your kind of light
To swell the morning in
You were lost the first moment,
you saw me, the first moment
you breathed into me.
The oracle was right.
“Where there is no trust, there can be no love.”
I stood naked before you, pleaded with you, reached in to drink
the autumn wine of your dark mercy.
Blinded by the violet of your rejection, twitching
across my breast like roaming wisteria;
like the shadow of a marvelous act of charity.
Deceitful, Dismissive Creatures,
Men were my best teachers.more
