‘WHY DADDY’
This song started as a reflection on 25yrs of deployments, distance, & coming home. But somewhere along the way, it became something else.
People often thank the service member for their sacrifice. What we don’t talk about enough are the families who carry the weight back home.
This song is for my daughter, Indigo aka ‘Indi’.
As a little girl, she was always asking “Why?” about everything. The funny thing is, she eventually became the answer to a lot of my own questions. Through deployments, long separations, uncertainty, & all the miles between us, she became the light that kept pulling me home.
The song flips the usual story on its head. The pilot isn’t the hero here. The little girl waiting at home is.
It’s a thank u to the child who never realized how much strength she gave her father. It’s about realizing that sometimes the people we think we’re protecting are actually the ones carrying us through.
At its core, it’s a father looking at his 21 year-old daughter & saying:
U never knew it, but u were my North Star the whole time.
This is for my daughter Indigomore
