Direala was born in Houston and raised in Lafayette, LA.
After his Nigerian father was deported, from federal custody, Direala was raised by his mother, grandmother, and great grandmother in Lafayette, LA. “We grew up walking to church. It was some of the only times I wouldn’t get picked for a fight while outside.” Direala knows the culture and shapes it into understanding when he writes. “Around 8th grade some homies started calling me, Reala. At the time, I preferred D Real, but Reala fits my vibe way better.”
After dropping out of college in Louisiana, Direala moved to Houston and sold cars to organize a home studio, then he quit selling cars in passionate pursuit to create music! It was a saving grace from loads of anxiety.
Direala has since further honed his craft, while overcoming depression/anxiety, and beginning to build a solid base of engaged and curious supporters. His latest release is a hip-hop anthem, titled “Bag Gettin”.
