Youssef Lahlou Errachid , better known by his stage names MortyTheBoi or Valium, is a 19-year-old Moroccan rapper rising from the underground drill scene. His music echoes a painful past, marked by betrayal, the loss of close friends to violence, and leaving school at the young age of 16.
It was at that age that he truly began shaping his sound. His early influences came from Kay Flock, whose raw Bronx drill energy pushed him toward aggressive delivery, and Central Cee, whose sharp lyricism and UK perspective showed him the global potential of drill. But Valium’s artistry also draws from a more personal source: the nostalgia of radio pop songs from 2013 to 2018, music that takes him back to his childhood and a time of innocence before life’s struggles. This duality — the hardness of drill and the bittersweet pull of nostalgia — defines his unique identity.
