The year 2022 is B. John Burns’ Golden Jubilee as a songwriter. Since 1972, he has written approximately 5,000 songs. Of those, he has a regular repertoire of about 250 originals that he performs on piano, guitar and ukulele. He has played them in 23 states from California to Georgia, from Seattle, Washington to Washington, D.C. His writing derives from a diversity of personal experiences. Over the course of his life, John has endeavored to put food on the table working as a bus boy, a bank messenger, a Pinkerton guard, a paid actor, a lawyer, a grill cook, a bookkeeper in a bank, a published author, a stereo salesman, and a political organizer. Before focusing exclusively on solo performances of his own original songs, John worked as a sideman (primaily a keyboard player) for various bands. In the mid-1970s, he toured the United States with Baby Lester and the Buggybumpers. John’s sole remaining lifetime ambition is to be the oldest recipient of the Best New Artist Grammy.
