Hi, I’m Alastair, In 2018 I was diagnosed with a low grade brain tumor and I have regular MRI scans to keep an eye on it. I’m so used to MRI’s now that I often drift off into a meditative trance or sometimes a full nap! Unable to move and wrapped in the intense, thundering sound and vibrations of the MRI machine, I began to hear complex rhythms and melodies. And so in the chaos, music began to emerge for me. So, one day before a regular scan, I put my phone in the corner of the room and hit record. I wanted to capture these unpleasant noises and use them to create music. This project is both creative and cathartic for me. It’s fun to see what cool sounds can be created from what is ultimately scary, loud and tuneless noise, and also a reminder that anything awful can be reframed into something positive. I'm attempting to transform the sounds of fear and suffering into hope and inspiration and in doing so help people to discover that everyone can turn a diagnosis of
