An acclaimed visual artist originally from the New Hampshire coast, Carbee took a break from painting in 2018. He began creating and recording music, and moved to Ocho Rios, Jamaica, where, he says, “I record music in my studio on a hill overlooking the Caribbean. I love to paint. But now I'm in love with discovering music. Music is better than painting in many ways. Painting was always more like a science experiment to me, but with music, it feels like pure emotion being expressed. And, on the practical side, the notes don’t get on my shoes and ruin my clothes, and I don’t have to sweep up all the notes on the floor after a recording session. I also don’t have to make or buy any note juice or anything in order to play. The other thing about music is the more copies the better; people don’t want a copy of a painting -- there’s only one available. And how many paintings can one person acquire? People can collect copious amounts of music. And music doesn’t take up space. It’s ethereal.
