The Coal Creek Boys

The Coal Creek Boys project was founded in 2011 by project leader singer-songwriter John Paul Smith. The name is a nod to the vibrant coal mining history that Smith grew up in and around the Elk Valley in British Columbia, Canada. Coal Creek was a mining community that emerged just behind what is now Fernie, BC, around the 1890s.
Initially, the band focused on traditionally rooted country music. However, they have since ventured into various genres, including outlaw, alt country, folk, and classic rock-influenced songwriting. Their albums have garnered a strong following in Western Canada, the Southern United States, and parts of Europe.
After a decade-long hiatus, Smith, along with producer and drummer Mark Massicotte actively releasing singles and recording two full-length albums. These albums are scheduled for release in 2026 and 2027, respectively.
