I am songwriter, percussionist and singer for Atabal. Son of Héctor Rodríguez, a percussionist who started Atabal in 1983 and who passed away in 2020 –I began as the groups’ band boy, learned the ropes and began playing panderos de plena, bomba drums and singing backup chorus. I've been a singer and percussionist for other bomba and plena groups before becoming Atabal's lead singer and also offer bomba and plena workshops to persons of varied ages. As musical administrator , I've tried to lead Atabal on a musical journey that continues to offer rich percussion sounds of the traditional bomba and plena but with a modern pop/urban twist. In 2021 we began updating some of Atabal's classic songs. Most of the group's newest songs have elements of jazz, Latin percussion, urban, dancehall, flow and pop mixed in with bomba and plena. During the pandemic I've continued to study studio recording and worked alongside other musicians producing our next singles. "Seguimos, we continue.
