With a love and passion for music at 9 years old, Chilly was enrolled into the Kansas City Observatory of Music and studied percussion. Chilly developed his style of drumming from playing in churches, garage bands, and local drill teams. Being born in the late 60’s during a time when music evolved into different styles and genres over the years one being Hip-hop. During this time dancing was his passion so he became a Pop Locker turned beat boy and joined the group The Jam Squad. They won the 1982 Kansas City All City talent show. During this period, he also learned the art of Rapping and writing lyrics and would write raps for friends and family. From his experience playing in garage bands, Chilly decided he wanted to play guitar. Self-taught for many of years and impressing peers, the private tutelage of Norman Brown enhanced his playing abilities, and took his guitar playing to another level. Leaving Kansas City in 1983 and moving to Los Angeles .
