Multi-instrumentalist Darren James learned to play the mandolin at the age of six. He later switched
to the electric guitar and played as a guitarist with the band InStereo. He was also on stage as an
actor with the Mülheim cast of the Helge Schneider musical "Mendy, das Wusical" under the
direction of Eva Kurowski. As a singer he worked in different areas: front singer of the rock band
Avalanche, in Eva Kurowski's gospel ensemble and in several smaller jazz sessions. For a few
months, Darren James helped out as a guitarist for the reggae band The Rude Reminders. He is
currently working on his own projects with influences from global music and draws on a variety of
international instruments, paired with electronic influences and lyrics in different languages. He is
collaborating with his contemporary dancer wife, Ninatoka del Valle, on an audiovisual dance
project called Atlantis, which will be released in five parts. The first part, Bubbles, was released in
