From the opening salvo “How Are You Going?”, with its near-waltz tempo bathed in layers of ghostly tones atop a rich bed of acoustic guitar, through the gauzy hues and heavy, low cloud-cover of “I Can’t Wait to Leave,” the dreamy, Cure-like cadences of “The Red Kind,” the noir-ambient guitar blend and luscious groove that propel “Night Jumping,” and the yearning-infused, ethereal “Today’s Morning,” these songs are modern pastorals, snapshots of an imagined lambent landscape not unlike the gorgeously lamentations filling Mercury Rev’s epochal “Deserters Songs.
