Faux Jean is not my real name. I was born a Matthew and grew up on the frozen Tundra in Duluth, MN. Thankfully, the sounds of Minneapolis traveled to this northern port and Prince, Hüsker Dü, and the Replacements imprinted themselves on my young, impressionable ears. Left Duluth at the end of the 80s. At the risk of becoming a walking cliché, I declared myself a poet and hung a shingle stating so in Minneapolis in 1992 after a brief European stint. 1992, the year clip art broke...First band that I led was Steel Shank. That morphed (literally) into The Spring Collection, and then I changed my name to Faux Jean, hoping to launch a solo career. Somehow, that literally morphed into the Faux Jean band, but has now (after a decade of sub-nonchalant gigging) settled back down into just solo singer-songwriter Faux Jean. I'm like any schmuck, trying to make a buck of his ideas.
