Hamza J didn't grow up creating music. His family didn't either. He was always told and therefore always believed that you should do your best in school, go to a good college, get a good-paying job, and support your family that way. While he still believes that's a great path, he went through an enlightening yet damaging experience that forced him to look at life through a different lens. He started to see the beauty in passion and the devastation in the lack thereof. He realized that his whole life he kept saying "man I wish I could sing, I wish I could rap," and then he just started doing it - poorly. But he felt this spark inside him. He was staring at a block of ice that most people wouldn't look twice at, but he knew inside there was a beautiful, unique, bright sculpture. Three years in he's seeing it start to form, but he knows that there will always be some more chiseling to be done.
