Dice grew up in the hip-hop culture. At a young age, the first artists he was introduced to were Kool G Rap and Big daddy Kane. With the insurgence of hip hop rising in NY, Dice, being from Vauxhall NJ, witnessed this soundtrack to Urban Life. When asked who his favorite hip hop artist was, he replied Bobby Brown, after a chuckle he was introduced to Kool G Rap.. Dice remembers when his father would come home with Doug E Fresh and the Get Fresh Crew records and would go over the lyrics with him and his brother and listen to the music. Dice and his brother would take pennies and place them on top of the needle to make scratching sounds and they would go to his grandmother's house to go through her old records, looking for samples, and new ways to create music. As a late teenager, Dice stayed in the lab creating new music and making a name for himself in the Newark Hip Hop scene where he rubbed shoulders with The Outsiders, Rah Diggah, and Redman amongst other local talents.
