Josephine Pilars de Pilar is a frech-german singer who bent genres to her will rather than allowing herself to be confined by their boundaries. Her songs swing back and forth between jewish song, world music, chanson francaise and classical with passion, emotional honesty and a strong grasp of technique as the constants of her musical career. Born in Germany, her parents raised her with music of all styles and countries, Opera and classical music were also part of life. Shaped by all these influences, she completed her singing studies at the University of Music and Performing Arts in Graz and in Vienna. It was not possible for her to devote herself only to opera and concerts, the need for more originality drew her to the folk music of other countries and cultures
