Kailani’s songwriting journey started differently than most. While growing up, writing was the only way Kailani could regularly experience music because it was prohibited by her mentally-ill parents. Growing up with limited access to music has created a unique writing style. Right after college Kailani packed her bags and headed overseas to travel the world. Over the past 4 years, she’s lived in 27 different countries traveling the world as a digital nomad, working for a tech start-up by day and writing her combined music + novel called “She saw in Color” at night. Kailani never expected to publish any of her writing, but her deep conviction to impact others who grew up like her gave her no choice. She hopes to raise awareness of what its like to grow up with mentally-ill parents through her lyrics and storytelling. Additionally, she’s excited to innovate within the industry by carefully intertwining two separate mediums of storytelling: music and books.
