Malik Kiambu Kalonji, stage name “ Kwesi Abangye”, was born and raised in Hempstead, New York. His inspiration for Rap, R&B and spoken work comes from listening to the forefathers of hip hop, The Last Poets. He also grew up listening to legendary hip hop artists like LL Cool J, Run D.M.C., Biggie, and Tupac. His singing influences are among the greats; Elvis Presley, Michael Jackson, Prince and The Temptations. Malik began writing and performing his own music in the 90's after moving to Florida. He was part of a duo called Granny Rapp and 725. They performed at the Apollo, The Rosie O'Donnell Show, and lots of local venues in Southern Florida. He recently got back into the studio to record his single, "Magic". He recognizes the need for positive messages in modern hip-hop/Rap scene and R&B. The song, "Magic" is about unity, you also get a glimpse of his inner child while the song uplifts people in a positive way.
