With his genre shifting, lo-fi hip-hop meets alternative r&b sound, it’s hard to believe Mandla. got his start in an a cappella group, the Supertronics, at his high school in Gaithersburg, MD. It was there he discovered how stringing together dissonant chords could evoke a specific mood. “I started writing my own sheet music then eventually took it to the studio and that’s when I realized I wanted to do this for the rest of my life”. With the release of his EP Surprise! last year, Mandla. proved his ability to produce a cohesive body of work that entrances his audience. His newest release and first full album Siren. continues this theme of combining effervescent production with poetic lyricism. Mandla.’s music wraps listeners in a totally immersive experience; the bounce and beauty of his experimental sound design leads listeners into a world of his creation. “I want to be the soundtrack to your daydreams”.
