The wispy, melancholic indie-pop of Canadian musician Marisa Finley covers themes of love, loss and outgrowing old selves. At 24 Finley, who grew up in the Evangelical Christian community, found herself married with a baby, living in the suburbs, unsure if she chose this life or not. Rekindling an old love of writing led Finley into a process of upheaval, dismantling her cult-like devotion to church. She managed to rediscover her bisexuality, her Irish/Métis roots, and an authentic voice.
Recently teaming up with long time friend, producer Peter Mol, who has worked with artists from Father John Misty to Quincy Jones, Finley is set to release her debut single “Hallelujah” in the summer of 2024. The song is reminiscent of George Harrison’s record “All Things Must Pass” and influenced by artists like Kevin Morby, The Japanese House, and Cotton Jones. With heavy-hearted vocals and lush production, Finley tells the age old story of falling in love before really knowing someone.
