Melisa Raquel Baena is an Afro-Latina singer-songwriter and multidisciplinary artist based in New York, emerging as Raquel Bee Mel — a project rooted in healing, identity, and ancestral memory. Blending Latin jazz, Afro-diasporic rhythm, and contemporary fusion, her sound is intimate, emotive, and embodied.
Previously known as Raquel Trombona, she built an international career as a trombonist, performing across the U.S., Colombia, France, and India, including stages like the ESPN Heisman Trophy Ceremony at Jazz at Lincoln Center and collaborations with artists such as Wilfrido Vargas and A. R. Rahman.
As Raquel Bee Mel, she creates music as ritual — reclaiming Afro-Indigenous identity within Latinidad through voice, sound, and storytelling.
