Brought up in a musical family, Paul Gerhardt learned various instrument from an early age: From 4 years on he learned to play the recorder and took Cello lessons from the age of 10. Early gigs on weddings and family gatherings contributed to his experience in performing live. During his teenage years Paul Gerhardt got familiar playing western guitar by watching his two older brothers strummin' and hummin'. This is also the time when his first self-written songs began to take shape and form. Meanwhile Paul Gerhardt also took an increasing interest in rhythm and percussive instruments. After several failed attempts at setting up a band, Paul Gerhardt discovered the magic of handpan music when watching a busking musician playing in the streets of Cologne. His first instrument, however, was a RAV-Vast, B Celtic Minor, purchased in 2017. It is this very instrument that can be heard on the recordings of "Virtuous Garden". The RAV remains, to this day, Paul Gerhardt's favourite instrument.
