Peter Lotins is a composer at the intersection of sacred minimalism, Atlantic-Iberian modal tradition, and contemplative orchestral writing. His compositions are born in liminal states — threshold moments — where melodies arise involuntarily and are shaped into finished works.
His harmonic language is rooted in ancient modes — Aeolian, Dorian, Phrygian — drawn from Iberian sacred music, Lusophone folk tradition, and Eastern European choral heritage. Music that inhabits a persistent dusk: still, unhurried, the stillness found at the end of a long road or the beginning of a prayer.
Lotins composes in God's presence. Unresolved cadences, glacial tempos, and silences treated as structure define his sound. His work resonates with the sacred minimalism of Pärt and Górecki, though his process is involuntary — closer to transcription than composition.
Peter Lotins is not a professional musician. He is a physician by vocation and a composer by necessity.
