Sakima Malachi or “Amikas” is a Drummer, Beatmaker and Educator. NYC-born but raised in Florida, Sakima learned his love for playing music through his Puerto Rican roots while playing in his step father’s Afro-Cuban Rumba bands Omilasa and Okanilu. After a three year hiatus from music, he took a leap into the Denver music scene in 2018 playing drums in the styles of jazz, rock, hip-hop, funk and more.
Sakima’s latest album "Overthought" was released independently in January of 2022. This project was composed by Sakima himself and was put together as a reflection of his inspirations and listenings revolving the relationship between Jazz, Hip-Hop and other genres. Some of these influences include artists like Makaya McKraven, Karriem Riggins, Robert Glasper, Alfa Mist and Nate Smith.
