Drugstore Cowboys are lyricist and singer Cailean Smith and musician Mike Parsons. Their music has been described as “spooky lo-fi roots”, “dark cinematic northern noir” where “spoken country-tinged paeans are scattered with technological samples”. Currently joined on the Lost Highway by drummer/percussionist Ollie James the music is always idiosyncratic whilst spiritually uplifting. Smith’s dark lyrical content delivered in a monotone Scottish brogue is matched by Parson’s soaring melodic almost gospel touches.
In 2020, with the intention of being a loud and scruffy garage band, Smith and Parsons were forced into self-isolation during lockdown. After a radical rethink they formed Drugstore Cowboys. Constantly locked in a battle to transcend darkness through light, they create musical and lyrical stretchers for psychological casualties.
Drugstore Cowboys exist in a magical kaleidoscopic forest hewn from the salvage yards and chattering libraries of existence.
