As a member of the youth choir at Rockwell AME Zion Church, it would be no surprise that Shumon (Spears) Hudson would have music in her lifelong plans. Her beginnings were as most aspiring artists; in the church, her family and the community. She gained much stage experience by performing in family weddings, school events, and community functions. As a native of Charlotte, NC, she has now made a name for herself locally by performing at some of Charlotte’s most notable events and venues. She has graced the performing bill for Jazz in the Park (an annual jazz festival in Charlotte), auditioned for the 2003 taping of American Idol, provided vocals during studio recording with Ira "Champ" Gilroy, and has been a featured soloist at some of Charlotte’s most popular venues such as Time Lounge, The Savoy, Delta’s, and STATS. She shared her vocal gift with the cast of "Sensitive to a Woman's Needs", a gospel play written by Curtis Blake and was the lead female vocalist with the Uptown Swagga
