I grew up musically playing with several bluegrass/newgrass bands in East Tennessee in the early years of the Down Home Picking Parlor, playing with Steven Sheehan in the Down Home’s “house band” in the early 1980’s. I took a hiatus from music for about 14 years after moving to Fredericksburg, Virginia, in 1983. In 1997 I began writing again and returned to Bristol, Tennessee, to record my first album, Vertical Land, with the help of Ed Snodderly and Missy Raines. I was a Kerrville New Folk artist (2001) and have performed at the Kennedy Center Millennium Stage, Bristol Rhythm and Roots (2002, 2003, 2004, 2005, and 2006), and the Moab Folk Music Festival (2003). I have been playing mostly in Central Virginia for the past 15 years with Stony Man and Hazel Run. I have started writing some new songs with an Appalachian theme and am hoping to get back to performing in Tennessee and the Carolinas once I get them recorded.
