True talent has the ability to transform itself in many ways, which is the case for bass guitarist Todd Neal. From road manager to the stars, to consultant, and now to his music career, his skills across industries that span more than three decades have taken on a new form, leading him to where he always thought he would be–music. For Neal’s debut single “The Rent Party Jam,” he teamed up with music producer YouTube sensation Aaron Mayfield to create a track reminiscent of its namesake. During the Harlem Renaissance, residents would throw parties and live performances and pass around a hat or charge admission so that they could raise enough money to pay rent. Neal and Mayfield recreated the essence of this era with the nostalgic feeling of a Donny Hathaway set mixed with the energy of a James Brown record. Neal’s second single “I C U” is a spoken word, neo-soul track based on an interaction he had when he crossed paths with a beautiful woman more than twenty years ago.
