Based in Oslo, Norway, Trecathlus (a.k.a Rikard Bakke) began his musical wanderings in his mid-teens, learning to play piano and guitar by listening to his favourite records. He started writing songs early, usually about what he envisioned for the future, though his experience and wisdom were naturally limited by his youth. He took a cue from one of his greatest inspirations, Brian Wilson, and delved into what Wilson called "feels:" pieces of music that evoke moods and ineffably touch the heart. Always "in search of the lost chord," he explored and composed music that, in its minimal form, tried to challenge the standards and norms as he understood them.
Though he is foremost a singer-songwriter, balladeer, and ambient music composer, Bakke is open to most styles; it simply comes down to what inspires him. He is more concerned with how the music makes you feel than studio slickness, so most of his recordings have a distinctly lo-fi character.
