Originally from the Bronx NYC in a time just before the culture, I was already immersed in sounds. Sounds of the kids in the streets, the noise the multicultural music that was the oxygen in NY. It’s what we all breathed in. I was born in 1967, Hip Hop came in 1973 so I was able to watch the baby as it came from the womb. At that time, I can’t remember there being a name for what was happening because to me it was always happening except this time it was bigger, bolder. Statements were being made, roads were being paved, people were etching their names in stone for that spot in what is now the largest and most dominant form of art in the world without argument. I’ve never had equipment and never made beats but the rhythms were always there and now, even at this age, they call me. It’s a chess game with complicated moves using smooth pieces to play with except this Is no game, It’s music. Music that can make the difference in peoples lives or bring them together.
