Volkspeler is an Electro Rock outfit from award-winning Afrikaans author and poet Johan Jack Smith. The band was active from 2009-2014 and released three studio albums. Many of the songs received airplay on student and local radio stations. Smith is also known for his Spoken Word projects with the same lyrical content and dark tone as the band, often collaborating with his wife, Wiekie Vega. The lyrics are deeply personal, political and reflect on the dark psyche of being a male South African in a modern-day South Africa.
