Janay Lashel is a songwriter born and raised in Durham, NC. Her first song, titled “Come On”, was written in the back yard with a childhood friend. After performing “Come On” for friends and family the thrill of hearing her words never left her. Janay Lashel was raised in the church and knew as a child that God anointed her with the gift of words through writing. Being a shy but active member of the choir helped cultivate her natural talent. She would also hone her gift as a writer through jingles, songs, raps, and poems she made up around the house. As a young adult Janay Lashel desired more from God, but she could not identify what it was. At the age of 19 she was invited to a service held by a college ministry with her older sister and from there her life was never the same. Janay Lashel was introduced to the baptism of the Holy Ghost with the evidence of speaking in tongues. Though she was not filled that night, what she experienced led her on a pursuit to know God more
