Woody is a Leeds based guitar and banjo player, whose music brings the folk stories and legends to life, effortlessly blending the old with the new. He frequently melds together styles from all over the world and genre spectrum, taking as much from Sharp and Child collections as from Eno or Reich’s minimalist pieces. You’re unlikely to hear anything like him anywhere.
Woody mainly plays traditional and contemporary folk and blues, from late 19th Century Irish folk to 60s Revival folk and blues. His largely self-taught development leads to playing styles and vocals that are unmistakably Woody. In addition, Woody plays many other instruments, including whistle, bongos, and keyboards giving him a well rounded perspective on his work. He likes to incorporate different genres, and frequently employs drones and jazzy melody lines. He also writes his own songs, which blend seamlessly into his set like they’ve always existed.
