With one foot in the past and the other in the present, pianist and composer Wylie Harris forges his own path writing and performing vibrant, dynamic, and emotionally driven music encompassing a wide palette of influences. Whether it be works for solo piano, chamber, or orchestral ensembles, he immerses himself in whatever project he works on, be it music for visual media, video games, or the concert hall. Classical training along with an education in jazz performance resulted in a synthesis of musical inspirations, from pantheons of the classical canon such as Beethoven, Chopin, Beach, Ravel, Rachmaninoff; to mainstay jazz musicians like Duke Ellington, Thelonious Monk, Oscar Peterson, McCoy Tyner, and Herbie Hancock. A fond admiration of movie music from the likes of Alex North, Jerry Goldsmith, John Williams, Quincy Jones, and Rachel Portman has also served as a strong foundation to his development as an artist.
