Yvlz is the solo musical project of Yuri Velez, a disabled, multiracial musician/artist born and raised in New York City. Taken from the letters in his name and pronounced “evils,” the moniker is representative of subjects evoked in the music which swarms with fuzzy guitars reminiscent of 90s alt-rock, and washes over the listener with waves of ambient synthesizers. Yvlz’ debut EP, The Way You Bite, is a collection of love letters to depression, anxiety, fantasy, and loss, inflected with Velez’s commitment to social justice and constant battle against systemic oppression.
