Backwater Testimony Music is the work of a solo South African songwriter crafting original dark country and outlaw gospel, songs about mortality, self-examination, and grace, steeped in Southern gothic atmosphere; moonlit swamps, creaking porches, lantern light. Every lyric comes from lived experience, written and shaped in collaboration with AI, never outsourced to it. The debut album, The Mirror, opens a three-album catalog of 24 original songs, with Time & Reckoning and What We Carry to follow. The songs move the way a hard year moves — some come in hot, fast and unflinching; others slow down to a full moon over still water. Underneath it all: can a person actually change, or just keep telling the truth about not having yet? Early listeners, including a regional South African radio station, have responded to the project's rawness — growing the old-fashioned way, one person telling another.
