APLO (pronounced Ah-pol-lo) is an indie soul-funk band based out of New York, dedicated to feel-good vibe and groove. Created from an impromptu jam session at their college campus, founders TJ McMaster (Saxophone/Vox/Writing/Production), Ethan Famodu (Guitar/Vox/Writing/Production), and Lowell Chamberlain (Bass/Writing) established the band in the fall of 2021. They would soon be joined by Keyboardist/Vocalist/Writer Billy Buono, Drummer Brandon Vassallo, Multi-instrumentalist and Writer June Greenwell, and Horn Players Marty Scott, Tim Warner and Luke Monaghan. They write with a fusion of jazz/soul/funk influences on indie rock, similar to yacht rock during the 70’s. Some of the other genres they utilize are city pop, motown soul, funk, and yacht/indie rock. A few specific examples of their influences are the likes of Michael Jackson, Vulfpeck, Thundercat and Masayoshi Takanaka (as well as a plethora of others), and they have been compared to the Free Nationals and Steely Dan.
