David "Davisito" Navarro is a Cuban trumpet player based in New Orleans, who is at the forefront of the next generation of Cuban jazz musicians. Besides being a trumpet virtuoso, he’s also a commanding salsa singer, a subtle crooner, and an exciting timbalero. Known for his versatility, skill and charisma, Davisito has performed with greats of Cuban music and salsa including Emilio Morales, Bellita y su Jazztumbatá, El Niño y la Verdad and José Alberto “El Canario”.
He was born into a musical family in Manzanillo, a remote, historic small town on the southwest coast of Cuba. The slow-paced life of his childhood included a farm, fishing in the Caribbean, and his early music education came from his mother, Flor María—a piano teacher, his grandmother Morayma, who also played piano, and his uncle Norberto, a percussionist. He later studied with Sonia Herrera, a renowned local teacher of solfège, and studied music theory at the National School of Art (ENA) in Havana.
