Writing was always a passion of Joanna’s. Her preferred way of communicating due to a stuttering problem which made her self-conscious.
“Writing was my way of expressing myself when verbal words failed me because of my stammer. It was therapeutic. Retreating into stories of far off adventures. I could be anyone and do anything. I was limitless.”
“Growing up, we had an organ in the hallway. I’d pretend to write a song. But doubt crept in. How could I write a song, if I had trouble speaking? My cousin suggested I write a song out of the blue. I prayed on it. And as they say the rest is history, or shall I say Herstory.”
“Fearless” is my first song I’ve ever written. It took me two years to write it due to severe brain fog. I wrote it while having a golf-ball sized brain tumor and sometimes literally losing the ability to speak after seizing. I played my song during recovery from emergency brain surgery to give me encouragement. I hope my song can do the same for others.
