My name is John V. Srsen, and I am the
Music Director at St. Vitus Catholic Church in Cleveland, Ohio.
In addition, I am also a singer-songwriter.
Since I could breathe, music was part of my life. I was born, as I often say, in a choir loft. There were several midnight masses as a kid where I fell asleep on the kneeler next to where my dad was directing the choir. So my musical journey started from the very beginning. Singing, of course, was the very beginnings of becoming a musician through what I refer to as "spiritual osmosis."
The first instrument I learned was the piano, beginning at the age of 5. In 8th grade, I saw how all of my friends were learning to play the guitar, so I decided to learn it as well. In my high school years, I tried out playing the bass guitar, but I could never get past playing with my thumb. Around the same time, I found myself casually playing church hymns by ear on the piano. About a decade later, I was a church organist!
